A performance about intimacy and safe spaces for women in prison within Walls of Breath, from inside out
Aixopluc is a text based performance and a series of staged images that translate the research of Walls of breath, from inside out into an embodied and narrative form.
The title refers to the Catalan word for shelter, refuge, or temporary protection, becoming the conceptual and emotional centre of the performance and the images. Through voice, bodily presence, and fragile spatial gestures, the work reflects on how temporary forms of emotional shelter can emerge within conditions of vulnerability, confinement, and instability.
Rather than approaching shelter as fixed architecture, Aixopluc constructs it as a temporary relational condition generated between bodies, breath, listening, proximity, and collective presence.
Alongside the live action, a twelve-part photographic series extends the performative gestures into still images, transforming temporary bodily situations into fragile visual compositions suspended between documentation, fiction, and performative trace. Rather than documenting the performance objectively, the photographs continue the project’s investigation into vulnerability, shelter, proximity, and emotional architecture.
Process
The performance emerged in dialogue with the workshops and bodily exercises as a spatial experiment during the broader research process of Walls of breath, from inside out.
Voice, water and breath became central methodologies for constructing temporary situations of intimacy and shared attention. Fabric, water, bodily positioning, and recitation were explored as simple but emotionally charged gestures capable of producing temporary forms of protection and relational closeness.
The photographic series was developed directly through the performative actions, extending the bodily and spatial situations of the live work into carefully composed performative images.
Rather than documenting the performance objectively, the photographs continue the project’s investigation into vulnerability, shelter, proximity, and emotional architecture.
Forms
Performance: a performative environment combining voice, water, bodily action, fabric structures, and spatial intervention
Twelve-part photographic series: performative photographs developed through the bodily actions and spatial constructions of the performance
Installation: textile fabric-based shelters and fragile architectures activated through bodily presence and collective interaction
Collective readings: shared vocal situations exploring listening, intimacy, and temporary collective presence
Together, these forms construct a performative and visual reflection on protection, fragility, and emotional survival.
